BLOG 6: contextual restrictions ft. a cactus
Half way through the semester, look at us! My occupation has seemed to get more and more enjoyable as the weeks have progressed. I feel like I have been able to improve my painting performance level in the process, but there’s always room for improvement of course. I still consider painting to lean more towards the occupational engagement end.
One contextual barrier that could exist in relation to painting might be access to resources. If I did not have any paint, paintbrushes, or canvases it would be really difficult to create a painting. Financial resources go right along with this barrier because all of these items cost money. Two additional barriers might include time and space. If I did not have enough time in my day to paint, it would not be possible to get it done. Luckily, I have this blog assignment to hold me accountable in prioritizing time to paint. I also have a designated space in my home where I am able to sit down and quietly work on things that I need to accomplish. It would be really difficult if I did not have my own space to paint. Lastly, my social environment can be a risk of impeding my participation in painting. If I did not have a single person in my life who painted or encouraged me to paint it would certainly make it more difficult to be inspired to do so. In my case, my mom is an artist. Every time I see her paint a new piece, I feel more encouraged to paint something of my own. I can definitely see how our social circles have an impact on the types of occupations we participate in.

Hello Krista! Good job on the painting! I love cacti and think you did good job on this painting! Would you ever branch out from painting objects and try a portrait? My occupation is cooking and I think we face a lot of the same contextual barriers, relating to supplies. If I didn't have access to the store I would not be able to participate in my occupation. I think it is good to have a designated space to work on our things because it helps keep us focused and referencing last week topics, it can also help us achieve flow. I think it is so cool that your mom is also a painter, that makes it fun! Have you ever thought of painting a piece together, like a collab piece?
ReplyDeleteHey Julicia!
DeleteThank you so much. I would definitely consider painting a portrait as I gain more experience. I feel like it would be less daunting to try animal portraits first, so maybe I'll paint my chocolate lab Jack and see how it goes. I love your idea of painting a piece with my mom. I'll have to propose the idea and see what she thinks. This could be a great opportunity to try out a portrait together!
